Had to spend 800 unbudgeted dollars this weekend. No, we didn't go on a romantic weekend getaway - seriously - we have five kids. Nor did we buy something fun and frivolous. No - we had to spend $800 at the emergency vet hospital because our loveable but dumb lab decided to jump out of a jeep going 40 mph. Don't ask me why.
When I watched "Marley and Me," I thought the scene where he was half in/half out of the car was quite funny. Not anymore. I didn't think a dog would actually do that. I now know better.
Toby is doing ok. A night in the hospital with some serious pain meds, surgery on the tendons of his leg and he is home, getting loved on and spoiled. He will make a full recovery although he may always have a limp. The vet said this would have been a career-ending injury for a show dog or a competitive hunting dog, but he will do fine as a family pet. He has to take antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs for two weeks and wear one of those big, funny-looking collars (which I'm sure he will destroy before the two weeks are up.) As for the $800 - I'll just have to get busy and find more ways to save money in other areas - and maybe look into pet insurance for the future.
